Michał Onufry von Cyrzan Studziński

1832 Studzienice - 1879 Pine Creek

Nobody knew what to make of me.
My mother said I was born talking
And walking within a year,
That I considered everything was really mine,
And that I could convince anyone why that was.
As befit, I suppose, a true von Cyrzan Studzinski.
But it was really my inner grifter already emerging.
There was nothing for me around Studzienice,
So off to the New Country
And a farm in the Tamarack Valley that
I somehow never actually paid for.
When the civil war came, and I was drafted
I went to La Crosse and acted crazy
Until I was allowed to go home
The neighbors didn't know what to make of me,
So they quit talking to me altogether.
Still, it's hard making a living when
You're averse to hard work.
Hard as I tried not to overtax myself with my labors,
I didn't even make it to fifty.
No obituary, no headstone: my wife remarried.
Even in death nobody knew what to make of me.
